When I was kid I heard many call me Holly Jolly- that and folks asking if I was a Christmas baby. Well, I was born in May and I was almost called 'Honey.' I believe my Mum made the better choice on that decision! As far as feeling Holly Jolly, I am feeling quite festive this Christmas more than I have in a long time.

The movie Elf spotlights many of my favoite things like smiling and sugar. I beleive in the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup. On that note, I am going to start my Christmas baking this weekend.

My girls asked me to illustrate a dog with antlers. Yes, we watched The Grinch and we all agree the dog is the star of the show and saves the day! Go dogs!

All I want for Christmas is this cute hippopotamus! I remember as a kid my Mum playing this record. Yes I said record, it was the '70's. Anyway, it's still a fave and I still secretly (now everyone knows) still want one!

It's been storming here since last night and it does not seem to be letting up. Good news, the power stayed on. On days like this, it's good to relax, sketch and wear pj's because after all, I am an illustrator and I like staying warm while I work at home.

In honor of the big bad storm we are about to get, I decided a abominable snowman was in order. They are calling for snow and freezing rain so that means tomorrow a pj day! With any luck, the power will stay on this time.

Today marks one month til Christmas. Sadly, it's damp cloudy day and it's +10 degrees. I was hoping for snow and it turns out wished too hard because we a scheduled to get a storm stating tomorrow. My shopping is 80% done and I have started decorating. I'm ready for December.

I had a busy stretch that kept me from moustaches and other sketches. Winter's coming and Christmas too, so it's going to get busier. Right now it's snowing, I'm feeling cozy, festive and I'm in the sketching mood. Time for tea and more drawing!

It's a big snow day here in New Brunswick so I thought of drawing a little bird just chillin' in his scarf and big boots! The girls have today off from school so they've been watching Christmas movies. I'm sure that helped inspire the frosty mood too.

My girls requested that I illustrate a goldfish with a mustache. In fact, they wrote up a whole list of animals they want to see me draw. I've got my work cut out for me. This is going to be fun!

I love these odd little creatures with their fusion of beaver tails and duck beaks. They are often described as nature's most unlikely animals. By adding a mustache probably wouldn't surprise us much...well, maybe if it was purple with pink polka dots I suppose!

My Inktober is now complete!

I really enjoyed participating in Inktober. I always have the intention of joining these drawing/sketching themes, but never really had the time to do it. Having Halloween as the theme made it even more enjoyable. I plan on continuing with the daily sketches-this is one habit I truly want to keep up. Happy Halloween!

When I was little, I lived for anything Charlie Brown. I still love the Great Pumpkin and so many other Halloween classics. It was hard to narrow down all these drawings for Inktober. I could have just kept going and going... so I plan to but with new themes. What Inktober did for me was to create a new habit-a continual drawing habit with a theme. I'm now setting aside more and more time to sketch and that is great thing!

It's Halloween Eve which means Inktober comes to an end tomorrow. I couldn't forget to sketch something from The Addams Family and it's two quirky characters. I'm looking forward to tomorrows drawing-I'm saving the best idea for last!

Wouldn't it scary if zombies could be woken from the dead with music? Well, I guess if your going to come back to life (however it happens... meteors, voodoo or a virus) you might as well celebrate it with a big party!  

As mad as a hatter!

I love the mad hatter character especially the Johnny Depp version. He was crazy in the remake of Alice in Wonderland but the good kind of crazy!

Alice: I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers. 

But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.

Well it's finally Halloween week! Today I combined two scary films for this illustration. I'm not big fan of gory movies-I try and stick to the classics mostly because I like to sleep at night!

Halloween is never complete unless I watch Young Frankenstein a few times. It's hard to pin it down to a few favourite scenes since the whole movie is hilarious from start to finish. 

The Blob!

When the Bob the Blob sits around the house, he sits AROUND the house! 

I love the original 1958 version of The Blob with Steve McQueen. I also love the movie taglines too: "Beware of the Blob! It creeps, and leaps, and glides and slides across the floor. Indescribable... Indestructible! Nothing Can Stop It! Indescribable... indestructible... insatiable. The indestructible creature! Bloated with the blood of its victims! It crawls.... It creeps.... It eats you alive!"

I was asked to illustrate the Grim Reaper so I dolled him up a little. He's a classy and ghastly fella. When he's on the job, he likes to go out in dreadful style!

I decided to illustrate another cinema classic but with a caffeinated twist. I always manage to mix up the blue lagoon (which was some cheesy 80's movie) and the black lagoon. I decided to just go with that and add some coffee humour to the mix. But of course, creatures need to fuel too up so they can catch all those unsuspecting swimmers!

It's hard to keep things under wraps when your having a wardrobe malfunction. October's weather can really unravel our stylish plans so it's best to pack some safety pins, glue and possibly a stapler for extra protection.

I could not do a series of Inktober illustrations without sketching The Bride Of Frankenstein. When I think if her character, I always think of Madeline Khan and her role in Young Frankenstein. "Taffeta Darling!

I'm really happy I've been able to participate in this InkTober challenge and keep it going for 15 days. The majority of these illustrations are ideas I've wanted to create for years. October moves fast and I typically run out of time. I've had many mention they like the "theme" I've chosen but I think it turned that because I keep an illustration idea file... and they were scratching to come out as drawings!

I got a request to illustrate a voodoo doll for today's InkTober challenge. Of course I took inspiration from Cole Porter's song, You do something to me. This Voodoo doll is swanky, he uses a pin for a cane and he's ready for Halloween!  

The Cabinet Of Dr. Cali-Spider!

One of my favourite B/W films is The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari. It's a wonky German Expressionism 1920's film about a doctor and his somnambulist, Cesare. What I love about this film is the strange oblong buildings, tilting scenes, great film set plus it's just so very cool. Another tid-bit- there's a scene in Beetlejuice that pays homage to this film. AND for added dizzying measure, I threw in some Vertigo too to entice you into his web!

I had a great Thanksgiving and a much needed break. For Today's Inktober sketch I used an idea from an illustration from last year's Halloween work. I paid homage to The Little Shop of Horrors and some chattering teeth for added effect! 

It's a pumpkin spice world!

Pumpkin spice has taken over. We are sprinkling that stuff on everything. It's in our cookies, coffee, candles... and even in pop-tarts! It was inevitable, the scarecrows are hopping on the spice wagon too. So cheers to Halloween with all it's zippy seasoned and festive gusto!

The 13 Ghosts!

Today my inspiration came from The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo! My girls watch those all the time. I've wanted to illustrate this for quite awhile so Inktober is the time to get it done! I also paid homage to the great pumpkin-There is a teeny tiny Charlie Brown reference plus a Movember ghost too.

Move over slasher flicks and candy corn! What better way to get ready for Halloween than a Blood Moon with the added bonus of an eclipse! I had to illustrate something to honour this festive lunar event!
